Sustainability in the Community

Sustainability is not an initiative, it is a way of life embedded into everything we do. We take materials destined
for landfill, skills at risk of being lost, and people who may feel isolated, and bring them together to
create something stronger, more connected, and more sustainable.

Our model delivers real, measurable impact. We operate as a community repair hub, diverting significant volumes of furniture, textiles, craft materials, tools, wood and palettes etc. from landfill each year. Most of our materials are donated by local businesses and residents, allowing us to intercept resources at the point they would otherwise be discarded and transform them into valuable outcomes. Sustainability is embedded across everything we do; environmentally, socially, and economically.

  • We don’t just re-use materials; we rescue them from waste (e.g. broken umbrellas turned into dog beds).

  • We don’t just teach skills; we empower change and lifestyle.

  • We don’t just support the community; we are deeply connected and care.

  • We don’t just talk about sustainability; we live it, every single day.

Here are some of our recent community collaborations which demonstrate our sustainability ethos in action:

  • Limpsfield Tennis Club: we recycled wood following their badminton court upgrade, used for Hurst Green outdoor library, bird boxes and strawberry boxes 

  • Burnett Gardens (newly opened Youth Garden): supplied bird and bug houses 

  • Litter Angels: our members volunteer with the Godstone group 

  • Friends of River Eden Ecosystem (FREE): we created and supplied “No Mow May” signs 

  • Sustainability Fair in Edenbridge: participant 

  • Reduce, Re-use, Repair event in partnership with Titsey Rotary: hosting 26/07/2026  

  • The Oxted Players: made poppies for “Journey’s End” production using donated materials 

  • Tools with a Mission: we donated old sewing machines to this Africa initiative 

  • The Bike Project, Guildford: helped store bikes due to links with Oxted Rotary 

  • The Friends of Limpsfield Common “Thursday Task Force” run in partnership with National Trust: we have supplied bird and bug boxes and cakes for their volunteers 

  • Local National Trust: Helping with seasonal displays using donated materials. 

At the Woodhouse Craft Centre we aim to do all we can to lessen the environmental load. We excel in taking
something useless, broken or obsolete and creating innovative designs and items ready for a new life.
